How to find the right language course

Selecting the right course is so important. You can easily waste a lot of time and money if you make the wrong choice. You have to feel comfortable with your studies, and not under pressure.

The internet

There are literally thousands of language courses on the internet. Be wary before you part with your money.

It’s advisable to check the following things before you sign up to any course, either on-line or in a classroom.

Is the language company accredited?

Have they been approved by an official learning body? If they have they should display the learning body’s logo. Unless this is a logo you are familiar with, for example IOL (Institute of Linguists), check it out. Contact the company whose logo you see and ask if the language company’s accreditation is up to date.

Compare courses.

Don’t just sign up for the first course you see. Take your time and do plenty of research. Compare similar courses and language providers, and don’t just base your final decision on price. How professional are the company and its staff? Are they easy to get hold of by telephone? (Always make sure you speak to a company before paying for an on-line course, to ensure they are genuine and do exist.)

Cost.

How much is your course going to cost and can you comfortably afford it? Good language courses aren’t cheap, so be sure you have chosen the right course for you. Find out if you can pay in instalments, or have to pay the full amount up front, and if there are any discounts.
